This Mega City article is naff!! NAFF!

Disappointing article really… worth a quick look for reference I guess.

The article extrapolates some extreme predictions of cities and their urban development. I am always wary once items become ranked and filed. What defines each region and populous within. Are these large urban cities sustainable?  equitable? … and is density the answer.

Perhaps I’m being generalist but aren’t most ‘mega’ cities on some of the globes most arable land and climates… and we pilfer them with our built environments.

Some other considerations raised in the comments section include peak oil/coal/ namely all our resources. Urban centres are high importers, some wholly. Cuba as a nation practically depends on importing food to sustain itself. Hence the boom in grassroots horticulture. I don’t have figures to boast but believe this approach is a crucial positive step in reducing the threat of peak food and water production/retention.

Like sustainability, liveability can be thrown around a bit, but are these mega cities really livable? Lets avoid rankings for the moment and just think about primary necessities - so forget that latest flat screen television or apple product. I’m talking shelter, clean drinkable water, provision of food and hygiene for health. After we scrutinise these large urban centres and they then provide these simple requirements elemental to human ‘being’, true prosperity; then perhaps a megalopolalooza can be encouraged to fruition.
